Teen Titans Swimming

Here are two generations of Teen Titans in what has become a time honored Titans tradition... swimming in the Titan's Pool!

First up we have the popular 1980's New Teen Titans. Here are Dick (Robin) and Wally (Kid Flash) in all their speedo-clad glory! Oh, and for the cheesecake lovers out there, Donna's in a swimsuit too. From New Teen Titans Vol. 1 #16.

Next we have the "Jurgens" Titans from Teen Titans Vol. 3 #6. The team has just finished moving into their new HQ, and you know what that means, it's time to take a dip in the pool. The de-aged Atom & Risk are my favorite members of this team. (Edited on 4/24/16 to replace scans).

Ahhh, the Titans' pool one the team's greatest legacies! And next to one another it seems Jurgens' art was definitely influenced by George Perez although not as much as Phil Jimenez.

I've always thought both Dan Jurgens & George Perez draw hot men (and women), but I haven't found Phil Jemenez's men sexy at all, which is weird since he's the gay one. lol His characters look asexual to me.

Jimenez's guys always looked above the comic book average to me, but his women do tend to look prettier for some reason. He needs to get in better touch with his Gayness when he's drawing. ;)

Lol, agreed! Use your gayness, Phil! But it is worth mentioning that I did find his Gravity Kid costume design sexy as hell.

Perez inked Jurgens for an arc where the new Teen Titans meet the original Teen Titans.

It's a thing of beauty, particularly in one sequence where they end up fighting each other, each thinking the other is a team of villains courtesy of an illusion casting villain. Before the reveal, we see it from both sides POV and the poses are identical, just the characters are different. It's subtle but very effective.

That's sounds awesome. I wonder if there's a TPB of this out there. It seems that DC chooses to ignore this incarnation of the Titans. They just use its members as cannon fodder (poor armless Risk).

No there's TPB from the Jurgens era sadly, DC didn't release many TPBs in the 80's or 90's, and still hasn't collected much of their back issue catalog. I think because from what I've read and heard, DC pays more royalties to creators on reprints than Marvel or other publishers; DC is very apprehensive of reprinting anything that isn't assured to sell well. It all comes down to dollars and cents unfortunately and it will only hurt DC more as potential new readers will feel alienated due to not being able to easily obtain older "foundational" stories. Marvel doesn't pay as much royalties and that's why they can afford to reprint practically everything in TPB and or HC.

I've only read a couple of issues from the Jurgens run, but I always thought Risk was kind of hot.
Which means I'm loving these scans.

@DAN, thanks for explaining the royalties situation. It sucks that most of the older Titan stories probably will not be reprinted. Oh well, at least we have "Games" to look forward to.

@Arion, Risk is definalty hot. Be sure to check out this old post featuring Risk in a loincloth.

Sadly Risk was a victim of the "Chew them up and spit the bodies out" approach to the Titans that Mark Waid initiated.

He had his right arm ripped off by Superboy Prime, turned to petty crime, got addicted to painkillers, was blackmailed into joining a team of "evil" Titans by Deathstroke and grew one of the most embarassing moustaches in superhero history

Poor baby, Risk had no luck at all! :( Maybe Gail Simone or some similar passionate DC writer person will take interest in him and rehab his character and status. :)

@icon-uk, you forgot to mention that he got his other arm ripped off by Superboy-Prime, again!

@DAN, sadly, after the relaunch I don't think we'll ever see Risk (or nay of the other Jurgens Titans) again. :(

That diving board shot is fantastic in its reality and perfection!

Also really like that slim chested, big nippled look! Walking in lycra, for example...
