1602 Hunks

Marvel characters in the Elizabethan era, that was the basic concept for Neil Gaiman's Marvel 1602 limited series. The following scans feature Werner and Scott Summerisle, this universe's versions of Warren Worthington III (Archangel) & Scott Summers (Cyclops) respectively. The two men are involved in a bizarre love triangle. Werner falls in love with a boy named John Grey (who is secretly Jean Grey in disguise). Scott becomes jealous but doesn't realize Werner doesn't know John is a woman. And you thought regular Marvel-616 lover triangles were complicated. Special thanks to Arion for these scans.

Always loved the concept of the Angel, an elegant, not necessarily violent mutation. Never a fan of Archangel on the other hand. Combat WINGS'O'DEATH never really seemed like a good fit.

His sad exchange with Cyclops when he explains that whilst Scott loves Jean, he could have loved "him" as John, was heartbreaking.
I like Warren better as Angel too. I'm not a fan of his Archangel persona but I understand why made the change. In a team with with such powerful mutants, I guess being a guy that flies isn't "edgy" enough.

I wish Werner, Scott & "John" would just do a threesome already! XD

I liked regular Angel better too, he looked too ugly as Archangel, not to mention there are already enough Blue colored Mutants in the X-Books.

I vote for a threesome too.

And yes, I'd rather have a good looking angel than a blue archangel.

Go threesome! XD Probably won't happen though. :(
Yeah, probably not gonna see any threesomes in any mainstream Marvel titles. In the Ultimate Universe though, anything can happen. There are a lot if depraved b*stards there.

Really beautifully done artwork.

Archangel was more or less a response to a fad. The success of morally ambiguous types like Magneto and Deathstroke the Terminator created a place for antiheroes. Most of the time that meant "extremely violent character we just call a hero".
