Anime Cyclops

Screencaps from Marvel Anime's X-Men series. The first episode opens with Phoenix going crazy (surprise, surprise) and telekinetically picks Cyclops up, shredding his shirt in the process. Luckily for him (and unluckily for us) Cyke seems to be wearing one of 'em indestructible pants that the Hulk is aways wearing. I love that even in the astral plane Scott's still shirtless.

Lovely looking animation, I'll definitely have to seek this series out, this is the first I've heard of it. :)

Cyclops always looks good. When he is drawn like a smooth guy (or is James Marsden).

But for me, even though I don't like it, Cyke is a torso-haired guy (note, not only his chest, but his whole front).

There was this classic story of the All-New, All-Different X-Men (I think it was drawn by Cockrum, although it could have been Byrne, I'd have to check) where they get to the Savage Land. Cyke is hairy there (and so's Banshee).

Also, he looked a lot like daddy Corsair when he did not shave.

That is the way I see him now, even though pics like these make me wish it weren't so.

Perhaps he uses wax? I think at the very least Evo Cyclops definitely should use wax if he starts getting those hairs, LOL.

@Cesar - Yeah, I remember that Savage Land story, it had art by Byrne, he liked to draw most guys hairy back then in the late 70's even Wonder Man in Avengers. Anyway, the Savage Land scene you speak of was in Uncanny X-Men #114

He also was a bit hairy in some scenes in New X-Men.
Yeah, unlike Wolverine (always hairy) or Captain America (always smooth), Cyclops' body hair continuity is hella inconsistent. Phil Jimenez drew him with chest hair in New X-Men, so did Andy Kubert and John Byrne. But almost all other artist draw him smooth.

Also, thanks guys for pointing out those the issues that feature shirtless Cyke. I've got some scanning to do!

RE: X-Men Anime. DAN, the anime is just okay, don't expect too much. I do like the way Cyclops & Storm are portrayed, they're not just secondary characters who've been shoved in the background so that Wolverine can take center stage, unlike in "Wolverine & The X-Men" or the theatrical movies.

But since quite a few draw Scott with hair, I see him that way, and smooth portrayals are "stylistic variations".

Unlike with Johnny Storm or Rictor, who are mostly smooth, and then comes someone who thinks it would be nice to add hair where there was none... I prefer to think of them as smooth.

Although in Rictor's case, he is still young enough (around 21, I'd say) to get new hair even if he was smooth til now... And it was not too much of it... But still, I want hairless Rictor, LOL.
I agree, Johnny & Rictor should remain smooth, and since they're relatively young compared to their teammates, they probably will.

Sadly, Rictor already got some sparse chest hair in a few of his recent appearances...

Hairy or smooth, it doesn't matter, I'll take shirtlessness either way! :) It all depends on the artist these days, back in the 60's, 70's, & 80's publishers had formal model sheets so there was some visual consistency for each character despite multiple artists working on them over the years. Now artists just have free reign to draw characters anyway they want, which leads to lots of visual inconsistencies.
@Cesar, recent Rictor shirtlessness, you say? *Checks out Scans Daily for bare-chested Rictor scans* XD

@DAN, I kind of like that artists nowadays are allowed to make slight alterations to their design to make the character their own. Except of course when they make the characters less attractive. For example, I normally worship the great George Perez, but his Conner Kent just looks fat. XD

You know guys I don't want to put too fine a point into the discussion but "hairless" USUALLY means "shaved." A character like a real person can choose to shave or not. Guys shave for a lot of reasons: to please themselves, to please somebody else, just on a whim, or maybe for medical reasons. I'm also guessing - don't know for sure - that some artists can't or don't want to draw chest hair well, and, they go for a smooth/shaved look.

Of course, I grew up in the days when shirtless characters didn't have even the barest HINT of nipples or chest hair: as a result, it would never occur to me to be critical of a magnificent series like this one.

The size and shape and definition of the pecs; whether or not the nipples are visible; if they, where they are placed on the pec meat; their size, coloring, shape; chest hair if any, nipple hair if any; all these details are decision, right?

I sure like the details; but, it's ALL good...
