New Mutants at the Beach
Time for some teenage mutant ninja beefcake. In New Mutants Special Edition # 1, our teen heroes are enjoying some downtime at the beach. I love that Doug & Roberto are in speedos, but Warlock in a bikini? (At the time he was new to human society, he eventually changed into a speedo too). Also, I didn't know Sam was a "never nude". In addition to the boys, the girls also serve up some cheesecake. Many thanks to Arion for sharing these scans with us!

I remember being confused at Doug wearing a speedo in this issue when he had hoped no one would notice how tight his swimsuit was in the Impossible Man issue...
Until I realized what he really meant that other time.
Warlock's bikini is a copy of what 'Yana is wearing.
He finds the New Mutants instead (Amara and Xi'an are sick and absent from this adventure).
Imp asks the NMs to play with him, but they couldn't care less. Of course, he does not take no for an answer and calls them chicken.
Warlock overreacts to this and they challenge each other to prove who can do something the other can't.
The Mutants have to chase them all over the world trying to stop them before they hurt someone. One of those stops is Brazil, during the carnival, surrounded by good looking, nearly naked. Roberto gets swimsuits for everyone and it's then when Doug thinks that line, that he hopes the others don't notice how tight his suit is.
He does not mention why exactly his suit is suddenly so tight, though.

I'll be posting additional scans from that issue in the next blog update. Thanks for all the info DAN, Cesar & Citizen Alan!
BTW, "never nude" is an Arrested Development reference. One of the characters has issues about nudity & wears cutoffs all the time.
Your tags here are a little borked though. Warlock from the New Mutants is not "Adam Warlock", and Douglock isn't in this scans.
@DAN, I love both Alan Davis & Art Adams, I can't choose who I like better though, they're both great artists. It's a shame that they don't work more regularly nowadays.
Plus, look at this MASSIVE comment thread! If it weren't for those darn sexualized New Mutants kids... ;)
I guess some of you have seen this, but for the rest, the first pic on this post is based on the Captain Britain/ New Mutants annual.

No Brian in that pic, though. Only Betsy.
And yes, Alan Davis & Art Adams should be working on a regular basis. I'm a big fan of both .

@Cesar, of course I've seen those before. Great job on the art! I love how Doug & Betsy are using Warlock like a carpet!
@Arion, thanks for sending these scans in buddy. I also have some Cypher scans queued up for future updates, so stay tuned (though I bet you've seen them all before.)
And the question is not that much why Betsy was changed to a Japanese body (I can see that as part of the story as it developed).
The question would be why, whenever Betsy is seen as part of alternate realities (not alterations of the main one, as in House of M), or on video games that don't follow the comics, or in movies, cartoons, wherever, she is still seen as Japanese without any explanation...
Well, I know why, but it's a real-world explanation that does not leave me satisfied...
I think Claremont actually likes including the link between her and her family, even old Marvel UK enemies, so I do not think his goal was to get away from them.
BTW, the first AoA was superb!
The second, was horrible. Characters who were dead simply popped up for no reason (Moonstar, I'm looking at you), humans recover overnight from years of war (not talking about buildings, those are easier to rebuild, but of lifestyles and emotional scars), stupid inclusion of current main continuity characters (I like Jay Guthrie, but the Guthries' fate was made clear in the first series).
The only thing I liked in the series was having Husk as the enemy. Everything else was stupid.
LOL, We made it to 30 comments, yay! And I can't wait to see more of Cypher in future, he was so cute and his friendship with Warlock was lovely.
He grew some barely noticeable facial hair in Limbo, but still not too much as to imply he is not a teen anymore...
I've been in love with Doug ever since. So, thanks! It's so good to see these again.
What I objected to was when it was retconned to a body swap, as opposed to a body alteration, which was much scarier and fit with her past with Mojo.
