Iceman & The Beast in the Savage Land

Let's revisit the original X-Men in these scans from X-Men: The Hidden Years #6, featuring Iceman & The Beast.

An unconscious and de-powered Iceman washes up the shores of the Savage Land where Dr. Karl Lykos aka Sauron finds him. I love that when Bobby isn't iced up, his costume basically consists of briefs with a belt & boots!

Next, we have an injured Beast with this shirt all torn up.

Naturally, he took off what remained of his shirt, but why did he take his pants & boots off? They weren't damaged. Maybe he just wanted to fit in with the natives so he copied their dress code. Or maybe its a sign of things to come since his future blue-furred self's most recognizable costume is  basically a speedo with a belt. Truthfully, I don't really care what his reasoning is, because pre-blue Hank McCoy was a babe, and the more skin he shows, the better!

Yum! Hank\Beast really should lose the blue fur and go back to just being a hairy muscle hunk...but still stick with the speedo-only costume of course! Make it so Marvel! Most Marvel males are wearing far too conservative costumes now. I miss the 70's & 80's mentality when it was normal for superhero guys to have barely there costumes!
Ah yes the 70's-80's. A time when Dick Grayson bared his legs and Cosmic Boy showed off his chest while in costume. Those were the days!

Looking over the blog there appears to be A LOT of beefcake going on in this X-Men Hidden Years series I never heard of before. I'll have to look for cheap backissues, but hopefully with the upcoming X-Men First Class movie, Marvel will get around to collecting it into TPB as it only lasted 22 issues apparently. Byrne sure knew how to draw sexy guys (and gals)!
Yeah, there was plenty of eye candy in XM:THY. All the male X-Men except for Cyclops were shirtless at some point or other. Thank goodness for John Byrne!

I don't know if Marvel's gonna release it in TPB though, John Byrne was so pretty pissed when the title got canceled that he hasn't worked for Marvel since. And it seems that Marvel favors the "First Class" books over THY, so those are more likely to be reprinted when the movie comes out. BTW, I am not crazy about the new costumes that they have in the "First Class" books. they got rid of Iceman's briefs!

I know, the costumes for First Class look very awkward and not sexy or even stylish at all - DAN
Well, at least we got some good eye candy from the "First Class" comics:

More of Marvel's Byrne stuff is beginning to surface in TPB: Namor Visionaries by Byrne vol.1 was recently released, and Byrne's Sensational She-Hulk is getting collections too beginning in April.(I'm a huge fan of both Byrne's and Dan Slott's tenure on her various series) Maybe there's hope for Hidden Years yet!

Beast in The Hidden Years is the first time I ever really found him sexy (that chest hair and muscles - yum!), although I was always intrigued by his friendship with Wonder Man. And you do have to consider what they say about men with big feet...
Yeah, I'm not a fan of his blue, furry look, especially now that he looks like a lion. But whenever he's he's de-powered, he's good eye candy. =)
