I know, back in the day, there were a lot more light-hearted & casual moments. Like characters just working out, having diner together or hanging out by the pool and such. Nowadays its all (mostly) dark and broody, *sign*. They did beefcake (and cheesecake) better in the good old days.

Yeah other than missing the plethora of comic beefcake, I do greatly miss those more mundane but cute "day in the life" type of moments and issues. Now everything HAS to be some big event or tragedy or something. There are some happy go lucky titles out there, not many tho. Another reason why I love She-Hulk so much, 90% of her solo stories since her Sensational days have been cute and funny and not too serious.

I still think some writers have managed to balance more day-to-day stuff with regular adventures. But most titles nowaday seem quite unbalanced in that regard ...

PAD is a writer who knows the importance of mixing shock value and calmer moments. That is one reason why I love his books.

PAD's alright at times, especially with the Shatterstar & Rictor romantic subplot finally being fulfilled, but is better at characterization than plots\storylines. I'm still very upset at PAD ruining the She-Hulk series after he took over for Dan Slott. It's shocking he'd pick up on a long dangling thread like Shatterstar & Rictor, but completely ignore all the subplots and supporting characters that were in She-hulk at the time like the proposed intergalactic "Reckoning War" or Jen's friend Augustus Pugliese being enslaved by Morgan Le Fey, and he completely dropped Two Gun Kid who had been a great supporting character. PAD's She-Hulk run basically ignored everything that had come and been brewing immediately before and even dropped the fun lighthearted tone in favor a depressing bleak storyline about Jen being ostracized by the other Marvel heroes for like no reason which resulted in readers dropping the book and it being cancelled. I'm going to hate PAD until he publicly apologizes for and somehow fixes what he did to She-Hulk, one half baked overly melodramatic gay romantic subplot that PAD took from Jeph Loeb's X-Force run is going to make up for him ruining She-Hulk and destroying what had been a growing fanbase for her. PAD sucks, he may have wrote the Incredible Hulk & X-Factor well back in the 90's but his glory days are long over and he needs to apologize for turning into a hack.

I wasn't aware of what he did to She-Hulk. I hate it when a writer takes over a title or character and completely ignores what has come before. I know they want to take the character(s) in a new direction but do they have to ignore ( and in some cases contradict) canon? That being said I still like PAD, he's still way better than some of the writers that have been allowed to derail a lot of other characters.

I'm surprised to hear this!

He usually respects what came before and builds upon that. Things from the past other would ignore are brought to the spotlight in a great way under his pen. And I think what he has done with Shatterstar and Rictor is very well done, and a change from what one would expect.

I would like to say in his defense that perhaps editors forced him to get rid of everything from She-Hulk, but I know he is not one to be forced by editors to do something like that.

I can only say I think it is his "expect the unexpected" approach. When people expect something serious, he can write a funny book. That way, he could have wanted something different with Shulkie... But I can't know.

I know his plots are better when not interrupted by constant crossovers. Yes, his strong point is characterization (gotta love it), but he is good for planting the seeds of future developments early in his stories, which is nice for me. Too may books right now have writers that look only for their six months story (which could be told in two months).

I still have liked everything I have read from PAD. I even think he is the only one who could make me like Star Trek someday.
