Tied Up Nightwing in Boxers

Nightwing is a prisoner in his own home. His captor, Vigilante was nice enough to strip him in to his boxers before tying him up because fanservice. From Nightwing #135.

While I have no problem with the fanservice...I found that scene a bit dumb.

Sorry maybe it's my inner comic nerd working in overdrive but there looks to be nothing complex about the ropes holding Dick to the chair. In fact, it looks like a basic knot and with Dick's experience in escapology, you think he'd be able to get out of it somehow.
I mean, we see Vigilante leave the room, saying he'll be back. Dick could have easily mustered some strength and found a way to get loose. I mean...am I overthinking this?
I haven't read the issue in a while but he does eventually escape. lol

Dick giving a damn about some ho who was just using him for Daddy's money and he knows this is also pretty weird.

His first time being with Kory makes more narrative sense. Marv Wolfman of all people should know this.

Yeah, I'd have been more impressed by this if it had been made clear that Dick was humouring the nutcase, playing him even, and was actually just slipping the ropes when he was alone, then slipping them back on when he returns.

The scenario seems to be intended to show us how impressive the new Vigilante is, but it just makes Dick look clueless.

The other issue still remains. I'll admit to being unimpressed by Nightwing, and here we have Marv Wolfman of all people saying Dick is stupid enough to betray Bruce for some trim.

Wolfman also made a thing that Dick didn't believe in casual sex, a thing Chuck Dixon continued. (Hilariously, Wally's supposedly a conservative.) Strictly speaking, Wolfman's Nightwing is demisexual. It's part of the ace spectrum, basically sexual attraction only comes after emotional bonds. I'd argue his gender orientation is bisexual (Watch his interactions with canonical bisexual Joseph Wilson some time.) but he's demi, and gay men have actually excluded aces more than they have us bisexuals.

Naturally, the Bat writers made him a bit of a thot in order to erase his love for Starfire. Great, but besides that time he was raped by Tarantula, you'll remember it because it's basically the only thing that happened in a decade of Nightwing, and that other time by Oracle's computer, he was raped by a shapeshifter from the future.
