Personally, I prefer where Kon brands him with a bend sinister, to say he's not a "legitimate" son of Krypton. (Now we have a lady version of that scene: Cass ripping off Kate's bat.)
It makes sense: In DC Comics, the S, the Bat, the Double W, the Bolt, all the Lanterns, all of them mean so much more than the bearer. When Tim sees Robin as sacred because Jason died for him, he has a point.
